India’s Green Mission: 300 GW of Clean Power and Counting
India has made clean energy a national mission. In August 2026 the country crossed 300 GW of non-fossil power capacity — more than 60% of its 500 GW target for 2030 — and non-fossil sources now account for over half of total installed capacity.

2030 target
The building blocks of the mission
- PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana — rooftop solar for 1 crore homes
- PM-KUSUM — solar pumps and feeder solarisation for farmers
- ALMM & PLI — building a Made-in-India module, cell and wafer supply chain
- Green Energy Open Access — letting consumers above 100 kW buy green power
- Battery storage — VGF support and large storage tenders
- National Green Hydrogen Mission and Mission LiFE for sustainable lifestyles
Capacity mix (July 2026)
| Source | Installed capacity |
|---|---|
| Solar | 164.59 GW |
| Wind | 58.14 GW |
| Large hydro | 57.24 GW |
| Bio-power | 11.75 GW |
| Nuclear | 8.78 GW |
| Total non-fossil | 300.50 GW |
Where IG Solar fits in
From a 3 kW home system to the 5 MW Sangel solar park in Haryana, from zero-investment solar for factories to MWh-scale battery storage, IG Solar is part of this transition — helping homes, businesses and institutions take their own step towards a greener India.
Key takeaways
- 300.5 GW non-fossil capacity as of 31 July 2026
- Solar alone: ~164.6 GW — up from 2.8 GW in 2014
- Over 54% of India’s ~552 GW installed capacity is now non-fossil
- Target: 500 GW by 2030, net-zero by 2070
