India’s Battery Storage Boom: 8.2 GWh Added in Just Six Months
Battery energy storage has gone from pilot projects to mainstream infrastructure in India. According to Mercom India Research, about 8.2 GWh of storage was added in the first half of 2026 — roughly 84 times the capacity added in the same period of 2025 — taking cumulative installations to about 9.3 GWh.

Why it matters for businesses
- Peak demand charges can be cut by discharging the battery at peak hours
- Solar generated at noon can be shifted to evening loads
- Backup for critical loads, reducing diesel generator use
- Better utilisation of rooftop and open-access solar
Utility-scale projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat are leading today, but the same falling battery costs are making commercial and industrial BESS increasingly attractive. IG Solar designs BESS around your load profile using LFP systems from EnerCube, Axiom and Replus.
