Delhi's New Solar Policy: Up to ₹1.56 Lakh Support for a 3 kW Rooftop

In early September 2026, the Delhi Government notified a revised Solar Energy Policy designed to make rooftop solar close to free for ordinary households. The idea is simple: stack a Delhi state capital subsidy on top of the central PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana subsidy, so that a typical 3 kW system needs little or no upfront payment.

What the policy offers

  • Central subsidy (PM Surya Ghar): up to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system
  • Delhi capital subsidy: up to a further ₹78,000 for 3 kW
  • Eligibility: residential consumers with consumption up to about 400 units per month, subject to technical feasibility
  • Application and registration charges waived for systems up to 10 kW
  • Free operation & maintenance by the empanelled vendor for five years
  • Surplus electricity can be exported to the DISCOM under net-metering

How much will a 3 kW system generate?

In Delhi conditions a well-installed 3 kW system typically produces around 300–360 units a month, which covers most or all of the bill of a household in the eligible consumption bracket. Surplus units in high-sun months are credited through net-metering.
